Greg Fretz of Phoenix Ale Brewery Passed Away

Posted on by Tyler Posted in Reviews | Leave a comment

The local beer community got some very sad news this past weekend. Greg Fretz, co-founder of Phoenix Ale Brewery, has passed away after a battle with throat cancer. Fretz was a very influential figure in the local beer scene and, by all accounts, he was a genuinely great guy. He will be missed by very many people here. The community will miss him but it was better for having had him be a part of it. Our thoughts our with …

Wingstock 2013

Posted on by Tyler Posted in Mesa, Reviews | Leave a comment

The folks that run Wingstock recently referred to us as the Phoenix wing experts. Pretty quick after that someone let us know they did not feel the same. Their reason being that we think Native New Yorker is one of the worst wing places (we don’t actually, we consider them pretty average) and we should have them ranked number one because they are the most popular and therefore they are the best. While their appeal to popularity argument may be …

The Frank’s RedHot “Get Franked” Bus Tour

Posted on by Tyler Posted in Phoenix | Leave a comment

We recently got an email from the folks that make Frank’s RedHot (or at least the people they hired to contact obviously important writers such as ourselves) about an Frank’s RedHot event, The Frank’s RedHot “Get Franked” Bus Tour. Now, if you have been reading this site for any amount of time, or if you just realized it is a hot wing site and came to the common sense conclusion, you would realize we are pretty huge fans of Frank’s. After …

Super Bowl XLVII

Hope everyone is having a good time watching the Super Bowl this weekend. Preferably, while eating lots of wings and drinking lots of beer. I am sure nobody is having a better time than than whoever stole $65,000 worth of chicken wings. That must be one hell of a Super Bowl party. Anyway, I want to leave you with this image that Barros shared on Twitter:

Keegan’s Grill & Taproom

You don’t always get what you expect. For example, I didn’t expect to be sick for 3 weeks. I didn’t expect to miss the Phoenix Invitational Brewers Festival because I was sick. And I certainly didn’t expect it to be two and a half months since our last review that was focused mostly on wings. These types of things tend to happen when you least expect them and sometimes there is not much you can really do about it. In …

A Little About Beer

Posted on by Tyler Posted in Reviews | 3 Comments

After we made the decision to cover beer-centered places like breweries and ale houses in addition to our usual piles of hot wings at all the local dives we have visited some pretty great places and enjoyed quite a few incredible beers. From local favorites at Four Peaks to some really high quality stuff from Angel Trumpet, we have had a good run of it so far. I think we [read: Xavvi] have a good knack from finding interesting local …

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted on by Tyler Posted in General | Leave a comment

Between going to the Suns game last night and Thanksgiving today I got a little behind on the regular post again. I will be working on it tomorrow in between bouts of my wife making me put up Christmas lights and help decorate the tree. In the meantime, here is a link Xavvi found and I am stealing for a Buffalo-style turkey recipe.

Four Peaks Brewing – Part 2

Posted on by Tyler Posted in Tempe | Leave a comment

Note: Sorry for posting this late. I have not been feeling well the last couple of days and I fell behind. We have wanted to review Four Peaks for quite a while. Xavvi and I both loved the place and we got a couple different wing recommendations for the place, specifically to try the Buffalo and Spicy Thai Peanut sauces that Xavvi reviewed in last week’s review. Given these things, Four Peaks was a natural spot to pick for our …

Movin’ On Up – Upcoming Site Changes

Posted on by Tyler Posted in General | Leave a comment

It’s been a little over a year since Xavvi and I visited our first hot wing joint together, Mister G’s Pizzeria (so what if the review didn’t go up until a little over two months later, shut up). When Xavvi suggested the idea that we start up a blog and write about weekly hot wing related adventures I was immediately on board, ignoring the fact that two fat guys writing about their favorite – and least favorite – hot wing …

History of the Hot Wing

Posted on by Tyler Posted in General | 1 Comment

We decided to do something a little different this week. Partially to just spice things up and keep from being too similar all the time (although last week’s review was pretty far from normal) but mostly because, for the first time since we started this blog, we didn’t have any new wing places lined up for review. A combination of actually sticking to a schedule for posts and missing a wing night here and there allowed us to catch …
